Massapequa Man Threatens To Kill Victims, Fires Shots In Air, Police Say

A man from Massapequa is accused of threatening to kill two people and firing shots in the air.

The alleged victims told police that they had been involved in a verbal argument with John Thompson, 49, of 21 Oakley Ave., on Thursday, July 4 at 10:15 p.m., according to Nassau County Police.

The two said Thompson then said he was going to kill them before pulling out a black handgun and firing two rounds into the ground near the alleged victims, said police. 

Thompson reportedly then went back in his apartment, the alleged victims told the officers.

When investigating, police reportedly found a loaded black handgun and spent shell casings in close proximity to the alleged incident, and a spent shell casing in Thompson's rear pocket, according to police.

No injuries were reported, said police.

John Thompson faces these charges:

  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon-loaded firearm,
  • First-degree reckless endangerment,
  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon-loaded firearm outside the home,
  • Criminal possession of a firearm,
  • Two counts of menacing.

Thompson's arraignment was set for Friday, July 5 at First District Court in Hempstead.
